It's a standard DVD player so it does not play high-definition (neither HD-DVD nor Blu-Ray) discs.

Re: Pioneer DV600 - Are there any online reviews?

Just picked one of these up from Richer Sounds for £120.

I don't have a HDMI cable yet and component is being used for consoles so I have it hooked up via a fully wired scart and set it to RGB in the setup menu.
The colours are all over the place with loads of bleed on reds and greens. The red pioneer logo looks terrible. You can really notice it in the menus of spiderman 2 and the matrix where the green options are way off to the left of where they should be.

Tried a combination of leads TVs and DVD players and its definitely the dv600 at fault.

Going to swap it for another unit but has anyone had a problem with this unit and RGB scart?

Re: Pioneer DV600 - Are there any online reviews?

Hi,

Am currently debating on whether to get a DV600 instead of a PS3, (360 kicks butt gaming wise imo ), but have a few queries;

Is the upscaler chip in the DV better than my PX70 descaler (HDMI or component - the DV would be wired straight to the TV)?
Is the coaxial or optical output pure digital or does the DV output as 5.1 through its decoder (i would rather use my onkyo 805 for DHS / true HD where available)?

Ta very much

Not sure I entirely understand your question but the player sends Dolby Digital
and DTS digitally through coax/optical as well as the decoded sound through the analogue 5.1 outputs.
Copyprotected high resolution audio, such as SACD and DVD-Audio, only
get sent through the analogue 5.1 outputs.

For not knowng the question you answered it quite sweetly (part of it anyhow ), i was hoping to output SACD via coaxial / optical and let the amp do the work, guess it's time to pull in the spare cables i've lent friends in the past..... many thanks

If you have HDMI inputs in your receiver, it is a different thing:
(straight from the manual)
The HDMI connection is compatible with 2 channel linear PCM
signals (44.1 kHz to 192 kHz, 16 bit/20 bit/24 bit), and Dolby Digital, DTS, MPEG
audio bitstream, multi channel DSD, and multi channel linear PCM signals, (5.1
channel signals up to 96 kHz, 16 bit/20 bit/24 bit).

So it would enable you to output DSD (Direct Stream Digital) from your SACD
into your receiver.

Edit: Pics from the manual regarding different outputs for HDMI

My palyer connected to Yamaha RX-V3800 via HDMI. I use direct DSD output for SACD and it works fine. Also DVD-Audio works over HDMI with full 5.1 PCM 96/24 signal.

Tried another DV600 tonight in the shop and it had exactly the same RGB issue. Got a refund in the end.

Hi,

I'm having the same issue with my receiver (the new Yamaha RVX 1800). If the plasma (Pioneer 434 feeded via HDMI) is turned on, the player goes to 720p/1080i and send the DSD signal over the HDMI to the receiver with zero problems (nice sound quality by the way). However, if I switch off the plasma or turn on the player with the plasma being off, the player reverts to 576p automatically, getting ony 2 analog channels over HDMI.

I guess there must be a problem with the HDMI handsake between the player and the receiver, I'm pretty much convinced.

Which receiver is yours?

Anyone has experienced similar problemes to ours?

Any help would be highly appreciated.

Greetings from Spain.

Re: Pioneer DV600 - Are there any online reviews?

Hello all.
Ok, I've just plugged my Pioneer DV600AV-K into a Samsung LE40M87 via a Linx HDMI Cable. I put in the Matrix to test it and the picture and audio kept on blipping and cutting out. So I looked in the Pioneer manual and it said it has issues with HDCP components.
The packaging on the Linx cable said devices must be HDCP compatible. So is the Pioneer DV600AV-K NOT HDCP compatible or have I misread it?

By the way, I tried connecting with a scart lead and there were no blipping/cutting problems, picture quality was disappointing though.

I have Yamaha RX-V3800 and had the same problem. I changed in "Video Outpu Settings" the "HDMI Resolution" to 1280x720p. Now when i turn palyer on the resolution is 720p and there are no problems with sacd and dvd-audio.

Thanks for the quick response!

I'll give it a try this afternoon and see if the problem is fixed.

There must be something wrong with my player or my a/v because I've tried 720p and 1080i and it keeps reverting to 576p everytime I switch off the plasma or turn the player on with the plasma off.

Thanks anyway.

Re: Pioneer DV600 - Are there any online reviews?

Having had this player since friday im quite happy with it. The picture is about the same as my old HK 2550s but with the added benefit of the USB port and HDMI which means no more switching cables between DVD player and 360.
Been watching a fair few AVI's on it and it works a treat. Only watched one DVD so far, will watch a few more this week.

Nice little player for the price.
Now just need to sit down and make it mutli region.

Re: Pioneer DV600 - Are there any online reviews?

Hi DV-600AV owners. Can anyone answer me this:

In the manual for both the DV-600AV and the DV-LX50, in the Initial Settings menu section, it says "...AV Connector [SCART] Out ... settings cannot be set if the player is connected to an HDMI-compatible component using the HDMI connector."

Is the manual hinting that I won't be able to get SCART RGB if the HDMI is connected up? Can anyone try this?

I'm contemplating getting one of these players, and using HDMI hook-up for audio only. I'd be taking video through the S-Video connector and SCART RGB. (I'd normally use RGB, but I need to switch to S-Video for 4:3 DVDs because my TV can't pillarbox RGB).

Re: Pioneer DV600 - Are there any online reviews?

I bought a DV600 yesterday and I am very happy with the building quality and usability but something just bothers me. It's the deinterlacing which gives me the creeps. The picture quality is horrible when the scaling is enabled - 576p, 1280p, 1920i, 1920p they are all the same. There are some glaring deinterlacing errors while there is some action on the movie. But when the picture holds still the picture quality is almost perfect - very clean and sharp.

I am using the Pioneer with my Optoma HD70 video projector and I've got an 65-inch screen. It was a great disappointment to see Pioneer doing such sloppy work. I am just wondering whether other users here have similar experiences with the Pioneer. I really hope that there is something wrong with my unit.

No, I don't think so. The video projector always recognizes the input resolution and the picture is clearly best when I set the resolution to be 576i.

Sometimes I can even see horizontal lines on the screen. These lines can be seen when the brightness of the picture is about to change. So, the problem is definitely the de-interlacing.

Sounds very strange, my guess it is a faulty unit.

Re: Pioneer DV600 - Are there any online reviews?

Received my DV-600 yesterday from Hiway Hifi, it was supposed to have been setup for multiregion, but it wasn't. Called them just before 6pm they said all their DVD players are normally sent multiregion'd they told me to call back in the morning as their tekkie had gone home. So, off I went searching the net and found a site that used novii remote deluxe for Pocket PC's and also supplied the Pioneer file to multiregion. I downloaded novii as a trial edition, copied the file onto my PPC, fired up novii and pressed the 'PRESS' button. The player shutdown, I removed the mains for 10 seconds, plugged it back in and my region 1 stuff played, happy dayz

Re: Pioneer DV600 - Are there any online reviews?

Looking to replace my kiss dp-600 because after 2 years it's become more of a pain in the a$%^. My wife will only let me change it for something a bit more wife proof, switch on put a DVD in and sit back...so i was looking at the DV600 to go with my new 428DX plasma, the problem i have is that i have converted a load of DVD into AVI's which i sed to stream to the KISS.

Can the pioneer handle these ? what the quality like and is it full screen?

Also can i connect an external hard drive to it and run the files from there?

Thanks for your advice.

Almost bought DV-600 but doubt setting in.
Any known problems connecting to an old standard (toshiba) crt via scart.
TVs about 15yrs old though, as yet, no need to change.
Thanks

From the manual:
• Official DivX ® Ultra Certified product.
• Plays all versions of DivX ® video (including DivX ® 6) with enhanced playback of DivX ® media files and the DivX ® Media Format.
• File extensions: .avi and .divx (these must be used for the player to recognize DivX video files). Note that all files with the .avi extension are recognized as MPEG4, but not all of these are necessarily DivX video files and therefore may not be playable on this player.

The quality is as good as it gets and it is scaled up to fill the screen.

Thanks for your advice.
Should work if the filesystem is FAT or FAT32 but have just tried USB memory sticks myself.
From the manual:
This includes playback of MP3/WMA/MPEG-4 AAC/JPEG files (except files with copy-protection or restricted playback).
• Compatible USB devices include portable flash memory (particularly keydrives) and digital audio players (MP3 players) of format FAT16/32. It is not possible to connect this unit to a personal computer for USB playback.
• Pioneer cannot guarantee compatibility (operation and/or bus power) with all USB mass storage devices and assumes no responsibility for any loss of data that may occur when connected to this unit.
• With large amounts of data, it may take longer for the system to read the contents of a USB device.

Even though the manual doesn't mention it, it plays .avi files from USB as well.

Your a star mate, thanks for the reply.... was going to go for silver finish from superfi but i think i'll go for black to match the new screen. I also have PS3 which currently does not do DIVX but i'm told will do shortly.

Am i wasting my money on buying this pioneer? The main reason being :-

1) Drive Noise
2) Play AVI's
3) Keeping the wife of my PS3

Thanks.

Then you could go for the Pioneer DV-400 instead, cheaper.
The benefits of the DV600 are: (vs DV400)
- Plays SACD and DVD-Audio
- DivX Ultra profile Certified vs DivX Certified
- 192 kHz/24-bit D/A Converter vs DV400:96 kHz/24-bit D/A Converter
- Built-in Dolby Digital Decoder (5.1 channel)
- Built-in DTS Decoder (5.1 channel)
- Bass Management and Delay Adjustment
- Total Harmonic Distortion 0,0023 % vs DV400: 0,0065%
- Dynamic Range 100 dB vs DV400: 88 dB
- 5.1 Analogue outputs
- S-video out
- Optical Audio out

My DV-600 is not dead silent, it spins and whirs some but not that distracting.
