My Denon DVD player has HDMI output (for upscaling). Can anyone clarify the connections to the Samsung Plasma and my Denon 1906 which does not have an HDMI input. I was hoping I could just use 1 HDMI lead for both pic & sound. Would I use optical to carry sound to amp?

Sounds like you have it sorted.
Use HDMI to carry picture to TV. It will also carry sound should you wish to use the TV speakers at any time.
Optical to carry audio stream to amp.
