Denon 1930 v Oppo 981

I decided to drop my price point as I will probably end up buying a HD player some time in the future when the dust has settled. These two players seem quite popular so i am wondering about the merits of each. One thing that confuses me is why some people dont use the upscaling features Surely that is the point of such a player isnt it? Otherwise why not hang on to ones old player, unless its very old?The other thing is what is the point of the firmware updates in the case of the OPPO?

It's the deinterlacing/progressive scan ability of these players which is the point. Only the few TV's which also use faroudja chipsets have a chance of matching them for this. Whether their upscaling ability will be better then the tv's is more try it both ways, and choose which one looks better.
