DVD player not reading dual layer discs???

Wonder if anyone can shed any light on this. My parents DVD player has developed a fault in that it will not play dual layer discs. Plays all other discs fines. When I put a disc in, the DVD player just makes a sort of clunking noise twice, then says 'no disc'.

Anybody any ideas?

Re: DVD player not reading dual layer discs???

Not unless you give more details like, oh, the model of the player etc.

Re: DVD player not reading dual layer discs???

And also what type of dual layer discs it has a problem with, because it is extremely uncommon to find single layer retail dvd's.
I would struggle to find one in my collection.

Pioneer All-in-one Cinema System, will need to check the model. Don't think the model/make would make a difference in this situation. Just wanted to know if anyone else had came across this kind of reading fault and if it was fixable?

How big/old is your collection? 2 discs and started last week???

If you wanted to ask if it was copied discs, just come out and ask...

A lot of DVDs released up until a few years ago were single layer discs, especially vanilla style releases. Also, a lot of childrens material seems to be on this type of disc.

All the discs causing the problem were 100% retail. Give you an example Batman(Warner Bros Flipper Box) works fine, this is a single layer disc. Where as Batman Begins is dual layer and won't work.

So just to recap, DVD player will read all single layered discs no problem. The problem is with all types of dual layer discs which it will not play.

Anybody got an TECHNICAL suggestions on why this is happening?

Hardly....my DVD collection dates back to the last century, and i cant be bothered to count them.
Purely based on my time on this forum should have stopped you from even asking that question.

I didnt know what type of discs you were having problems with, that is why i asked you to be specific.....but had it been DVDR's,that would have been a better starting point to understand your problem.

I still stand by what i said about commonly found retail single layer DVD's - i had a quick look in my collection and didnt find one.
I personally never bought, and never would have even entertained a flipper.

I agree with Tommy, time to get yourself a better player.

Cheers for your input... I had thought the same. Just wanted another opinion before I recommend to my folks they buy another system.
