Hi, theres a certain irony in your choice of phrases there my friend

The majority of cheaper players dont really do it very well, its largely a marketing ploy. Chances are your panel will upscale better.
With a higher quality player or dedicated video processor there are possibly greater benefits.

Re: Upscaling cons ? is their any ?

Hi Craig,

The biggest drawback has to be lack of picture detail.

What you get with upscaling players is an approximation of a high definition picture. The player is creating more pixels then using processing to guess the content of those. So there isn't any additional detail, you're going to be missing those intricate details and clarity you'd get on a HDDVD or Bluray title.

I've got two 32" LCD panels at home and am not bothering with high def. Up scaling will do me fine until I move to a larger format screen.

Hope that helps and good luck.
Cheers,
J
