DVD Lense cleaner

i have a toshiba sd220e that is about 4 months old i am having great difficulty playing some disks. they skip and sometimes lockup all together i have been told to clean the lense but i do not know how to or what to use any one had this problem with this player. It is running firmware version 1.30 and it also struggles on vcd's aswell
