720p/1080i?

I have just bought a Cambridge DVD-86 upscaling player and whilst it definitely improves the pq I have to admit I haven't been able to see any difference between the two settings. Is there any advantage in watching 1080i (50hz) over 720 (50hz)? The player also offers 576i/576p (720) to further add to my confusion. Please forgive my ignorance but this is all new to me. TV is Panasonic tx-26lxd70. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Re: 720p/1080i?

I don't notice any difference either between 720p/1080i.

I suppose there is less processing of a SD signal to get it to 720p? And it's a progressive signal so it should have that benefit.

But I leave my player on 1080i because psychologically I think I'm getting a better resolution but honestly I can see no difference.

I doubt if you would notice any difference on a 26" screen.
