I've recently purchased the Pioneer DV-454 player.

The problem is that my small 14-inch Toshiba TV doesn't seem to be able to handle NTSC. When I play a Region 1 DVD it's in black and white. Is there anything I can do to the player to maybe output in PAL or something? Or would I just need to get a new TV??

Check the specs of the DVd player - if it can output pal60, then you should be able to get a colour picture.

1)with no disc in machine, put player into standby mode
2) hold >>| (skip button) and press power
on front panel of dvd player it will say NTSC or PAL or AUTO
repateat step 1 & 2 unitl the player says PAL
3)Change the video out setting from VIDEO to RGB. If you can't find this menu read the manual

This should sort it... if not then you'll have to try compromise as your tv can't handle PAL60, RGB or NTSC
