Marantz Dv6600 Noise?

Recently taken delivery of one of these (stunning picture btw!) and it seems to make a fair amount of noise when playing dvds. It isn't really that noticeable at most times, but when there are particularly quiet scenes it is.

Is this normal?

Sadly, yes. This was one of the main reasons I returned this (I paid £300 at the time, so was not impressed by the noise of it spinning discs) and bought the step up model, the 7600. You might try placing something weighty on top of the case - it sounds like case vibration from the drive mechanism.

Thought it might be, I'll try changing the placing of it and putting some things on it tonight to see if I can reduce it a little.

If damping the case with a heavy object does the trick and you want a better solution you could try fitting damping to the inside of the case. Russ Andrews (www.russandrews.com) sell bitumastic pads for about £9 which I've used successfully.

Thanks for the link - I'll look into that. I wouldn't say I'm particularly sensitive to noise, but when I know it's there I tend to notice it more.
