DVD player for an 85 year old?

My Dad wants a DVD player, and he's in his mid 80s, with shaky Parkinson's hands.

Can someone recommend a player? There a re just 3 requirements:

1) Dead easy to use, with big buttons on the remote, and ot too many of them!

2) The remote should be able to operate the volume on his Sony TV

3) A flourescent display which shows whether there's a disc loaded, playing etc.

I guess this may rule out some of the real supermarket cheapos, but nevertheless, the cheaper and more readily available the better.

Thanks in anticipation.

>I'd get one of the sony universal remotes with big buttons as I doubt any player will come with something suitable.

>tick to universal remote

>most players do but I'd stick to a big brand Pioneer, Panasonic, Sony as they tend to have slick simple menus.

My nan 92 is quite happy with a LG player, nice big graphics onscreen and its clear what its doing. We've got a Panasonic and Pioneer as well. The panny is very nice but the onscreen writing it quite small. The Pioneer is better but the LG was the best. Go to a big store like comet and try them but thats my advice. Good luck.

Re: DVD player for an 85 year old?

Thanks, NX3

In the end, I decided to get him a Philips at £29. As I'm getting him a Humax PVR too, I got a One For All remote. I'm dry running it all at my house, programming the remote and writing up simple instructions for him.

I'll test it on my wife and 6 year old - if they can operate it all, he has a chance!
