Got Upscaling DVD Player - Now I have a problem

This was not what I was wanting. Wanted to come in tonight, plug it all in and see the power of upscaling DVD players.

I bought the Samsung DVD-HD860 upscaling model. The box does not contain an HDMI Cable, only the AV cables consisting of Red White and Yellow.

Am I right in saying that until I get an HDMI cable, I am not going to be able to see any benefit from this player other than the fact it matches my 40" LCD TV?

I could wire it up through the Analog Video Output, but this would just give the same quality as I already receive through scart on a non upscaling player would it not.

Also, if I need to get an HDMI cable to make this work to its full potential, how much should I be paying for one of these?

thanks serge. just out of interest, have you tried it through non HDMI connection? Any real benefits or is it a bog standard DVD Experience?

Have been looking at the HDMI Leads on ebay. Only thing Im worried about is the quality of the lead id be buying. Want to make sure its spot on best quality for best experience.

Buy the cheapest you can find, digital leads either work or they don't, there's no improvement to be had by spending more.

Re: Got Upscaling DVD Player - Now I have a problem

Thanks for help guys. Its a bit of a minefield out there. Also I think its poor that an upscaling DVD player doesnt come with the leads required to do the job.

Still looks a nice player though.

Thanks again.

Re: Got Upscaling DVD Player - Now I have a problem

Picked up a cable of ebay for £13. Gold connections, 1.5m. Its approx 50% cheaper than i could have bought in the shops. Looking forward to seeing this all in action. Reviews sound promising.
