Upscaling DVD player...advice pls

Hi all.

I have just got a great projector having loved home cinema for years. But i have been a little out for a few years and my knowledge is a little thin.

My projector is hi def ready....720p. I would like a dvd player that will upscale to 720 and i can then connect via HDMI.

Can anyone give me a little advice as to where i should start. I like pioneers gear and i dont have a lot of money!!!!!

Thanks in advice!

You are right,
Buy Pioneer 696AVi-S you will be satisfy. This the only cheapest full complete format that money can buy. Play from DVD, DIVX until SACD and DVDA.

Re: Upscaling DVD player...advice pls

Theres good value in the market right now for upscaling players. If your on a budget then the 696 seems good value at around 100 pounds, I bought the denon 1730 and picture quality via component is very good sound is excellent as well. Your other choices are the sony ns76 which is similar to the above.

If your budget is stretch the other is the pioneer 490 at around 55 pounds that upscales but has issues with PAL dvd's due to the older chipset which is the mediatek. The pioneer 696 has a newer mediatek chipset and does have these issues.

Anyway I would go for the denon. Plays everything i have thrown at it so far. Build quality is good too. Manual remote and menus are terrible though but it is minor issue once you get to use it.

I have both the Sony and the Denon.
Both give excellent pictures on 720p. but Denon edges it.

Thanks for your reply's.

Is the picture quality going to be better than the component via progressive scan?

I have read that 720p or upscaling for that matter, is not all its cracked up to be.

Remember the PJ will upscale anyway. I wouldn't bother to get a upscale player unless you pay more money for the player to make sure it is better at upscaling than the PJ. I would pay for the HDMI connection on a player over upscaling anyday.
