Hello.
I have a 3 or 4 year-old Philips 30PF9975 LCD TV. Its relevant connections are:
- RGB scart
- component (1080i)
- VGA (1080i)
I am about to buy a new DVD player (probably a Panasonic DMR EX75 EBS). The purchase is mainly to be able to record/edit/burn TV programmes from Sky+, but I am also keen to get the best results that I can from DVD upscaling.
I have learned (from other posts on this forum) that the LCD panel upscales SD images itself, but that a new upscaling DVD player will probably have a better upscaling chip. (I assume that my panel has been upscaling my existing SD, RGB DVD and Sky input, simply to make it fill the screen - right? But that is clearly entirely different to and way off HD-broadcast quality - so what is "upscaling" doing then?! But I digress...)
My cabling question is: as my TV does not have an HDMI (or DVI) connection, should I connect the upscaling DVD player to the LCD with a)
an HDMI/component cable or b)
an HDMI/VGA cable?
Which will give the better picture? And will either/both provide a better and higher definition result than RGB scart to RGB scart?
Thank you!
M
