I'm hoping it will come out in gold for us. The US Sony ES models seem to only come out in black as in the picture.

Response from Sony:-

There is no plans to release this model in the UK market. Our top of the range DVD player would be the DVP-NS905.

Of course your 900 is still a good player.

When sony release a new model that supercedes yours, they don't send out an invisible "downgrade" to your player that makes it performs worse now that there is a new model available. :-)

I have a 900 also (although I may be in a position to change it to a 905 later this week) which I am delighted with, and the picture and sound quality are still excellent.

Just had a look at avland and it looks like they are hinting at the 999 being about £800 quid for multi region player in either black or gold!!!

So should we take Sony's response with a pitch of the salty stuff!!

The DVP-NS999ES is undoubtedly coming to the UK. The very first pictures of the player were actually from an Italian Hi-Fi show, and it included both PAL and NTSC playback, which Sonys intended for the US market never do.

It is coming to the UK and Sony are hinting at PAL progressive out of the box, but... only if they can overcome a few political fences

ERP £1000

It's what Sony have said to me, but they are not saying for sure until next month

I think it will ship with PAL progressive as stand myself so I have put it on my site with it listed as being PAL progressive scan, but with a note saying it might not be, so don't order it assuming it will, just think of it as a bonus if it is

(It may well be something that can be hacked in the service menu if they don't ship it with it enabled)

Well - just had some hands on time and pressed a few buttons on the new sony 999 player (1st one in uk) and it looks excellent. luv the way the disc tray has no front it just slides back in then drops down inside the player and the door closes!!!

Sony would not confirm ANYTHING!! but when pushed about pal prog scan we will have wait and see, but it looks positive!!!!

I can't wait for it to arrive and it goes to the top of my list along with the new arcam dv88+

Regards

Gary

Being a US player will that even do PAL (it doesn't mention it)? I'm guessing PAL Progressive is even less likely.

I just got a call back from a small local dealer who I upset by enquiring about this player that they had never even heard off.

He phoned Sony and they said release date would be "late Autumn" which he took to mean beginning of December. He confirmed an RRP of £999 but told me that he wasn't sure it would be PAL progressive as there were no players capable of this yet.

Sony should know better. What about the Arcam DVD88+?
Just shows that a lot of the so-called 'experts' don't know what they're talking about.

Sorry for the confusion, it was the small local dealer who didn't know what he was talking about.

confirm progressive PAL

I saw the new player at the Sony stand of the Sound & vision show here in Greece. A couple of points: There must be a setting to turn off the lights on the unit because in a dark room its too distracting, especially that blue light. It had the Progressive indicator lit, so I presume it was outputting progressive PAL - good news. I didn't like the image on the screen but that was probably from the projector and not the player.
