Digital Optical sound failed!

I have had my dvd player connected by optical and component since I have had it. The sound failed while playing a dvd. If I connect via scart sound is working. Which do you think is more likley.
a The optical cable has failed
b The dvd optical out put has failed
c The optical connection on my tv has failed
Any suggestion cheers
