Yellow composite video Phono question

If I connect my DVD Player to my TV using a yellow composite video phono , will I notice a lot of difference to i) a normal scart connection, ii) RGB scart connection.

Also if I connect the coaxial cable from the DVD to my amp, and the video phone to the TV I guess I should still get 5.1 sound (in otherwords I do not need to get the audio phonos as well which would only give me stereo).

Thanks

Re: Yellow composite video Phono question

You will notice a distinctly inferior picture using the composite connection. Use RGB scart if you can. In order of picture quality, video connections go as follows (worst quality first):

Composite
S-video/Scart
RGB scart
Component (three RCA)/HDMI

Which DVD player/TV do you have?

You are correct in saying the coaxial connection will still give you 5.1.

Re: Yellow composite video Phono question

Sony DVD Player, Samsung LCD TV. This linked to a problem I am having (see thread Help - humming from sub woofer when DVD player connected).

Could you tell me more about Component set-up as I alswyas thought RGB scart was better?

Re: Yellow composite video Phono question

If any possible you should avoid the composite connection, even using no cable will improve your picture quality .
S-VHS or SCART will igve you a significant better picture.

Coax or optical will transport a bitstream and a 5.1 or so receiver/amplifier will decode the sound into multichannel

If your DVD player has component outputs and your TV component inputs, then this should give you a better picture than RGB scart IMO. As regards your grounding problem with the Subwoofer, I do not know whether this would help. Why not buy some component leads from a retailer that would allow you to return (if no help) and see if that helps.

Re: Yellow composite video Phono question

Component does not carry sound, the three cables, usually red green and blue for identifying purposes, are for video only.

You are thinking of composite with audio.
