DivX player with USB hard drive support!

I am looking for a DVD player that will be able to play DivX files straight off my 320gb external hard drive. I am not bothered about the quality of the DVD playback as I have another DVD player that I am more than happy with. I have looked closely at the Philips DVP5960 but it seems to have too many problems with low power USB issues and issues with large hard drives.

Any help greatly appreciated!

Re: DivX player with USB hard drive support!

I have used the Philips 5960 which played DIVX from 250GB External HD with no problems. HD must be formatted in FAT32. Player does not have DTS thats why I returned it, otherwise a good player. Bought a 5100 for £25 which didin't have USB but did have DTS.

Dho the Philips player does Have DTS there was a fault in the firmware which is now fixed wiht the latest version from the Philips site It looks and sounds superb.

Plays Divx and Xvide from USB devices so far I've tried 4 different pen drives a removeable WD hard disk and my UMS compatable MP3 player all worked brilliantly.

This sounds like just the player I have been looking for.
philaitman, have you tried playing HD content (divx etc) from an external Hard drive and if so can you comment on the quality?

I have a WD 'My Book' 250GB hard drive which I use as my back up device. I would ideally like to hook it up to play my movies, pictures, music etc:

Anyone else with experience on this?

Thanks,

JO

Re: DivX player with USB hard drive support!

Does this player have:-
1) RGB output?
2) A digital optical output?

And you say the DivX/Xvid compatability is pretty good? I download a fair amount of XVid stuff from the net...

I currently play is on my Philips 630, but if I could do the same with the 5960 just by using a USB Memory Stick that would make like a lot more straight forward!
