Low volume problem on LE26R74BDX

Hi everyone. Just joined and bought Samsung LE26R74BDX for the kitchen and last night installed a Samsung DVD-HD 860 with a HDMI cable. Picture is stunning although I have no real experience for comparrison.

Volume on screen alone is low and when on DTV very low. Connected via standard AV cables to a little Teac with flat speakers and a woofer (can't remember model name) but if I use TV & AV out together it sounds out of phase. So... no screen volume all from Teac and quality is good but volume is still not great - kitchen is noisy and my ears are passed their best so I decided not to bother with a theatre system.

Is volume on this screen typically low? Any suggestions for boosting the volume would be gratefully received - especially if it includes resolving the need for multiple remotes.
