DTS on Philips DVP5960

Hi can anyone with this player confirm if the latest firmware enables DTS output? I read it somewhere-sure it was on here-but can't find it now .

My Yamaha DVD S520 went kaput last night so the search is on. Problem is my TV is dead too so the budget is limited hence my potentialy choosing the Philips over the Sony 76hs

Cheers guys

Re: DTS on Philips DVP5960

If you are connected via fibre or co-ax to your AV amp it is the amp that does the DTS bit, all the DVD does is stream the audio signal to it. Often you have to go into the DVD disc menu to enable DTS as the normal output is DD5.1.
A DTS decoder is normally only ever built into a DVD player if it has the facility to output via analogue (6 RCA connectors on the back)

Sorry I know that bit My yammy amp is DTS capable. I'd heard that the Philips doesn't output the DTS stream. Seems to be a common complaint, however a recent firmware update claims to fix "Digital ouput issues"

Just for curiosity for this very unusual behavior I check vcdhelp and here is a post from August
-------
Good news to everyone! It DOES send the DTS stream to the digital output! When I upgraded my DVP5960/12 (region 2 version) to the latest firmware it started to send DTS audio stream to the digital output. Also DD stream out bug is fixed when HDMI is used. I see the the same list of fixes also in the latest firmware instructions for the US model DVP5960/37.

Re: DTS on Philips DVP5960

Hi I have bought the DVP5960/12 and I thought it was great until I realized that it didn't play DTS and that is very frustrating. So I seached around for a while and found this thread.
So is it true that I can get my player to play DTS by using the 12.06.36.34 firmware??
I have been seaching all over the net for this firmware but I can't find it anywhere. Where can I get it??
Can someone please send a link or upload the firmware??

Thanks in advance
Lars

Re: DTS on Philips DVP5960

The Phillips passes through the DTS signal to your AV amp. If you dont have an AV amp to get the benefit then you will get stereo on your TV.
