DivX players and MPEG-4/H.264 MKV

Hi

I really want to buy a new player with DivX support but its only really worth it if they can play new MKV H.264 encoded files which are of 720 resolution

HDMI out and the other bells and whistles would be good too

can any do this at the moment?

Re: DivX players and MPEG-4/H.264 MKV

Give it a few months... Players based on the Sigma EM8620 series chipset keep being announced but there's nothing in the shops yet.

The Kiss DP-700 was announced in ages ago, but I can't see any signs of it on sale yet.

They said this at the time:-

"Nero, leaders in digital media technology, and KiSS technology, one of the worlds leading manufacturers of consumer electronics products will introduce a new Nero Digital AVC capable High Definition Media player. The DP-700 is to become the first consumer electronics device to playback Nero Digital AVC files. MPEG-4 AVC (Advanced Video Coding), ITU-T H.264, or AVC more than doubles the compression efficiency of earlier standards.

"This is a significant step in the evolution of Nero Digital™, and KiSS has provided the vehicle to deliver this innovative technology to the consumer," said Jim Corbett, Executive Director of Nero AG. Finally end users can experience high quality AVC files on consumer electronics devices." KiSS is also proud to be producing a player with support for Nero Digital."

Others said:-

"KISS, the now Cisco-owned maker of DVD players infamous for missing deadlines, has announced another NeroDigital certified DVD player. The DP-700 will be the first to play NeroDigital AVC content (and thus also any other MPEG-4 AVC content put in the MP4 container, like x264)."

The TViX 5101 media player is supposed to support H264 and was supposed to shown at the Berlin show at the beginning of Sept.

It'll be a while before they're £40 in Aldi...

see here for example

Re: DivX players and MPEG-4/H.264 MKV

Apparently VLC can take .mkv back to TS so that it will be playable on the DP1600.
