New Sony NS76 or my faithful Sony NS999ES?

With my HD screen soon to arrive,I have been wondering about my SD dvd collection.
I dont wish to go buy a HD or Bluray until it all sorts out.
Now any advice on what will give me the best picture from my dvds?
My Sony NS999Es is a top of the range player, but now 2 years old does not feature HDMI, just component. The new Sony NS76 is a budget player in comparison, but, does have HDMI to scale to 1080i, so what will give me the best picture?? any ideas??

Presuming your NS999ES outputs progressive scan via component, I don't reckon any sub £100 player is gonna give you better results. Budget HDMI upscaling players aren't all they're cracked up to be - I purchased a Pioneer 696 not so long ago and quickly sold it on... that says it all really.

I find the upscaling on the NS76 just maybe, um, ah, better than component. Very close. I would surmise that you would not see any worthwhile improvement over your existing Sony. I could be wrong, of course.

The DVP-NS999ES is one of the best.

Your TV will do the upscaling.

Hang on!

I would concur with the right honourable gentleman (although I am very pleased with my Sony as the unit is much slimmer and better looking than my previous JVC recorder).
