Oppo sound solution using DVI output

Considering getting either an Oppo DV971 or Sony Ns76.

Apparently the Oppo only does DVI-HDMI, thus meaning it doesn't carry sound. I know this is a basic question, but I have not got a seperate amp, so how can I gety the sound to come out of my Bravia?

Also I have asked this question but no one wwill answer, what is going to give me the best pic quality from standard DVD's upscaled - the Sony or the Oppo?

thanks

Re: Oppo sound solution using DVI output

You plug the audio out from your Oppo (phono leads) to the audio in on the TV next to the HDMI socket.

I have had my OPPO for about a week now and I have set the output to 576P which means that the OPPO is doing the de-interlacing and my plasma is handling the upscaling. If your screen has a decent in built scaler then it is unlikely that any upscaling DVD player at this money will do a better job. The PQ from the OPPO is brilliant with a decent DVD source. I haven't got a seperate amp either and I have done exactly what Bat-Man suggests with no problems.

Re: Oppo sound solution using DVI output

DO you think it has better pic quality than the Sony?

I am torn between these two players, I am after the best upscaled pic quality, divx/xvid performance is an added bonus - I know that the Oppo would be better for this

I can't decide, has anyone seen either in motion to compare???

You would need advice from someone who has seen both side by side so to speak. Members such as Nic Rhodes and Loz are probably the best people to ask.
