I have tried looking around to see if this is coming (or even here now) but I haven't seen anything so I thought I'd ask if anyone knows when or if the new DIVX 6 - 6.5 codecs are going to be supported by the DVD manufacturers?

Something tells me that it'll not be appearing until the HD players arrive. (afterall it would mean HD DIVX = HD DVD on the cheap, surely?

Thanks for that Picky.....funnily enough I noticed the same at the Philips web-site last night.

Divx 6 - 6.5 are HD Divx codecs though, aren't they?

Am I getting this completely wrong?
I'm assuming that a Divx 6 - 6.5 player will output HD content even if it can't handle the 'other' versions of HD?

IIRC, the main difference as far as playback is concerned in DivX6 is menus. A Divx 5 certified player should still be able to play Divx 6 movies at that same level of certification. For instance DivX 5/6 Home Theatre movie should play on both DivX5/6 players that can play the Home Theatre standard. DivX HD is mostly just a higher resolution version.

Damn, I thought maybe I'd come across a way of accessable and inexpensive HD now (but I must admit I was wondering why I couldn't find much in the way of references to it here ).

Even on the Divx web-site there doesn't seem to be much in the way of HD Divx certified stuff yet (and what there is looks like it's US or perhaps Japanese brands).

Oh well, I'll have to content myself with the Philips I was going to buy anyway (a 5960).

You need a High Definition player, for example Snazio 1350, to play DivX HD content.

DivX 6.* can be different resolutions. A SD player can only play up to SD resolution.
