Someone please review the Pioneer DV490

Hi Guys,

I am really tempted by this player but am waiting and waiting for one of you to review it before I take the leap. Lots of talk about what it has and has does not have in terms of spec etc. So far, no reviews! Please put us out of our misery and review this player!

I would if I lived in the UK where you can take back your purchase if you are not satisfied. If I buy this player just to test it then I am landed with it, good or bad and I can't afford that my friend. I would not consider myself experienced enough to give an opinion which would be of any benefit to other readers on the forum anyway. Usually talk to Nic about purchases so if you are out there Nic, here's one for ya!

Just seen another of your posts and found out you live in Hungary and it seems demos are a bit of a problem.I have a Pio player,585,and am very happy with it PQ and sound wise, but it is a little noisey.I don't think you'd be disappionted regards PQ and sound but, like you say,a little re-assurance first would be good.

There is a quick preview in German here: http://www.areadvd.de/hardware/2006/...90_393_1.shtml
apparently less noisy than the previous models.

Thats great Mep!

Just checked it out in a shop this afternoon connected by component to a pioneer plasma and tried a DIVX in it first which played really well, much better in fact than I expected. Then I tried Lost in Translations region 2 original dvd and it showed up a little noise in the daytime scenes but skin tones were really good. I could not get him to connect it up by HDMI because as I mentioned before customer service is non existent here but I was very, very impressed with both DIVX and standard DVD playback.

This is only my very humble opinion so I am looking forward to a thorough report fom Mep or indeed anyone who has bought this machine. I use a Philips Q50 and I think this player shows my (one time) mid range player a clean set of heels. I can pick it up for 120 euro so I will probably go for it anyway as my Q50 does not play DIVX and my computer chair is hard as hell and too uncomfortable for long stints watching DIVX movies!

I ordered a Pioneer DV-490V-K (Black version) from Amazon on 10th May. Delivery was stated as 1-2 weeks. Got an email on Sunday saying that it had 'been delayed' and would be an additional 1-2 weeks. Current delivery estimate is 6th - 14th June, but I'm not holding my breath ...

why do amazon do this? they say that things are in stock when obviously they aren't, then expect you to hang on and hang on.
does anyone know if anyone has got these pioneers in stock and can get one to me inside a week. (thats a dv490 by the way because i've only got £100 to spend on one)
