Decided to go for the Samsung DVDHD860.

Samsung DVDHD860

Its due out middle of June.

So recommend me a HDMI lead that i will be connecting to my Samsung le26r41bd TV.

Also is this a good choice of player? And will the pic be much better than through my crappy sharp player that i use atm via scart.

i saw it in Richer Sounds already.... but i heard there were a few problems with them... do a search on the forum & you can find out more. I ended up buying the Samsung HD-950 & very happy with it. A lot of other people have gone for this model rather than the 860 by the look of it. Yes, the component/HDMI connection will more than likely be better than your SCART, but as always... try before you buy if possible with your own setup.

I have the 860 and im more than happy with it.There aren't many comments on the forums because its a new model and there is not many on stock. There was issues with the 850 model which the 860 has replaced,my old player was a pioneer 220s connected via scart and the picture quality is a big improvement.Found RGB expand 720p was the best setting.Theres also a remote hack for it.

Yep no probs in upscaling over hdmi ..... On the HD850 if you performed the multi - region hack via the hand set I believe it would dissable the hdcp and allow upscaling over component On the 860 it looks like they have updated the firmware and this no longer happens If anyone finds out anything different could they please let me know as my hdmi board was intended for $ky HD Mind you it might be Christmas before that ever arrives

What would give me the best pic via hdmi? The HD950 or the HD 860?

Considering there is like £45 price difference its not much more for possible a better pic.

Any issues with the HD950?

had no probs with the 950, hooked it up with HDMI > DVI, set to 720p... looked real nice on War Of The Worlds. Handset hack as well. Probably not much difference between the 950 & 860 by the sound of it...

The 950 is about to be replaced with the 960 so why not wait but i can't see it giving better pic quality.I have noticed that the 860 sometimes goes back to 576p when its been turned off, have to press hdmi select to get it back to 720p.This is the hack that was posted in REMOTE HACK FORUM its the first place you should look.

Works on samsung 860 & 850 (only tested on 860)
1. Turn on the Player with no disc on the tray. dvd will display "No Disk"

2. Press the "Repeat" key on the Samsung remote control

3. Press the keys: "5 7 5 3 8" on the remote. (850 only A number will appear on the screen. That is your player's current region.)860 shows no number but just carry on to 4.

4. Press the number for the region you want to use next ( 1 , 2 , etc). If you want your dvd player to be unlocked for all the regions press "9". (850 only A number should appear in the screen.)860 shows no number but just carry on to 5.

5. Press the "Open/close" button in the remote. The tray will open. Leave it open for a few seconds.

6. Just press the "On/off" button in the remote.

7. You now have a multi-region dvd player

the 960 isn't a true replacement for the 950 as it doesn't do sacd and dvda

i have the 950, mainly for the sacd and dvda feature. it also comes with a cable as does the 850 afaik

doesn't the 860 come with a cable?

btw, the pioneer 696 is only £120 on amazon, and due out within the next couple of weeks. its the replacement for the 585/575 and plays sacd and dvda also. i would wait to see what thats like as i'm thinking of upgrading my 950 with that and relagating the 950 to the bedroom

Hi
I got the HD860 from Play.com (£89.99) a couple of weeks ago to go with my Samsung 32R74 LCD. Delivery was free next day to N.Ireland. Wish every online retailer was like this !
Carried a handset hack to make it multiregion so no probs there.
I also got a 2M HDMI cable for £5 from ebay here

As it a digital connection you really dont need a £60 cable. Player seems to work well, I use the YCbCr-4:4:4 setting via HDMI as I read somewhere else that it was the best.
