Suitable DVD player for Samsung LE26R41B

Hi,

I have been reading the threads on here about the pros and cons of upscaling DVD players. The consensus seems to be that any benefit of such a player is dependent on the TV being used with it, and that it is prudent to get a demo before you buy.

Well, being based where I am, it's unlikely I'm going to be able to demo anything, so I thought I'd turn the question around:

What DVD player would give the best results with a Samsung LE26R41B?

I don't really care whether the DVD or the TV upscales the image, I just want the best possible (within a pretty tight budget).

Here are my criteria:

1) As cheap as possible.
2) MUST be multi-region.
3) Must connect using HDMI (because my Xbox 360 is connected to the components and my Toppy PVR will connect to the RGB scart).

Any help (and links) much appreciated.

Cheers!

Steve.

Owners of the Samsung le26r41bd, what dvd player you got?

I'll keep eye on both threads now, surely there must be more than 1 person who can add some info.

hi mate, i tested two dvd hdmi players on my tv, similar to your model of TV, you having the 26" version and me having 32" version.

the first i tried was the samsung R136 HDMI recorder, the second the toshiba HDMI 360DE. toshiba having great reviews btw, and i couldnt find a review of the latest samsung one.

both these dvd players are upscaling, though the samsung provided better picture quality, that is infact hard to beat. plus the fact its a recorder, i opted for that.

plus the fact it has the playback facility of divx and a component out, it would be a great buy for your tv.

if you are so stuck, go a drive to your local currys or comet, have them test their dvd players out on your tv which will be one of their displays, and see for yourself.

good luck

houly

Cheers,

I'll have a look around for reviews of those two. Perhaps I'm being a bit stingy, but I was hoping for something a little bit cheaper.

(Translated as: it's a bit difficult to explain to the wife why I'm spending nearly 200 quid when she sees DVD players in Tesco for less than 30...)

Try a Samsung 950, You can get it for around £120 and it plays virtually everything. Simple remote hack makes it MR.
