How much better is HDMI than component?

Hi guys,

I have a Toshiba HD LCD and an Xbox 360 and at the moment my DVD player is going into the system progressive scan component, I know in theory HDMI is should give a much clearer image than component, but is it really worth me forking out the extra cash for a multi region HDMI DVD player?

Many thanks...

With your size of screen you might not see much if any difference

But you have to also consider that a newer DVD player might have a better 'chipset' and will produce a better PQ - difficult to say until you do it!!

Sorry!! Not much help, eh!

A good player with a good Component Out will match if not excel another one in HDMI IMO.

All depends on the player / display combination. May be better, may be worse, may be no difference. Yes, it's that much of a lottery!

Yes, it's always different from player to player; there's no definitive answer.
Also, you may find there are aspects of a component picture you like over HDMI & vica versa.

Hmm, good question. i can only comment on component on my 32" Hyundai LCD, and i wasn't too impressed with it. Preferred image through full scart on my old 28" crt widescreen tv. Image is almost too good ie shows blemishes of the dvd, i.e. grainy, a lot of ghosting, and fuzziness.

Other people who have this TV have said that the picture quality via component is superb, and I've been given the explanation that its the disc rather than the TV.
