lens cleaners ?

evening all...was wondering if these lens cleaning discs that you can get are worth using?
i noticed some on the shelf today when i was out and about and was thinking that i never used one on the cd and dvd players i've got....did'nt know if it was a case of 'if it's not broke, dont fix it' or if it was worth using one every so often and if so are some better than others......or are they a waste of time?
any pointers most appreciated.
cheers

Try getting Allsops DVD cleaner and use it oce every 100 hours. Laser lens assemblies can get very grubby after a while. The Allsop also has some great sound and image calibration tools.

The best way to clean the lens is to open the cover, and get a cotton bud soaked with lens cleaner and rub it over the laser lens. Works an absolute treat!

The "fluffy" lens cleaners simply cannot get into the concave lens cavity to clean things properly. DIY method is cheapest and gives best results.

what kind of oil can u use inside equipment?

i try and clean my lenses that way, buy opening up the lid and cotton budding the lens, how do you keep all those plastic gears and things lubricated because sometimes my dvd players squeeks when it plays a disc? 3 in 1 oil is no good because it will eat the plastic, is silicone grease or graphite any good?

Possibly not the best advice when any movement to the lens can reduce the players ability to read discs. Alright to do on a £100 disposable DVD player but I wouldn't risk it on something better.
Stick to regular disc cleaning methods and just use them frequently.
