dvd for panasonic plasma

im looking for a new dvd player to be connected to a panasonic pwd8 plasma.
ive not set a price yet.
im wondering if any one can recommend a price point i should be looking at that would be paired right with the plasma.
i dont want one to cheap so i dont get the best picture from the screen.
also i dont want to spend to much if the screen cant show what the dvd is capable of.
does anyone know what sort of price dvd player would match the screen?
any recommendations of players?
will probably be using component but can also use an hdmi conection.

Was in the same boat as you , just bought the Panny 42PX60B and was running a Toshiba sd520e although a good player I wanted something to utilise the upscaling abilities we have these days and properly test this awesome tv.
I opted for the Oppo OPDV971H due to the feedback given on this forum.
Highly recommended for £179 delivered (IT Supplies).
Will tide me over for a year or two until HD DVD is more common place.

thanks for the reply.
im not realy bothered about upscaling, especialy on a player this cheap. ive heard a few bad things about this player such as poor component picture and lip sync problems.
dont mind spending more than this as ive not set a budget yet. could probably be around £250-£300 maybe more.

Just ordered a 42PX60 from JL and will be getting a free DMRE15 DVD recorder. As the DMRE15 is Progressive Scan should I connect to the PX60 via component and will the TV do the upscaling to HD or should I bin it (not literally) and get a Samsung HD950 and connect via HDMI for upscaled DVDs?

I'm sure someone said that HD TVs upscale component inputs or have I misunderstood?

Not too bothered about DVD recording but would like some form of HD imagery on the new telly when it arrives.

the tv will scale everything to its native resolution. the samsung will upscale but it wont be proper high def, a good component output on a decent dvd player should give just as good a picture if not better than an upscaled one.
the only way for proper high def will be an xbox 360 or a pc, until hi def dvd or blue ray come out
