Denon 2900

Hello,

well i got this player through fleabay, just set it up and.......

The picture is unbelievably good, and the sound!!!!!!!!!!
This has given my set-up new life I TELL YOU!

Before this i had a panny s75 and a s97 but this is in a league of it's own.The picture is soooogoood, compared to the other two players, but the thing that has shocked me is the the sound.
I demo'd some svs speakers at av-sales and came away gushing about how good they were on u571 (chapter 15)
BUT just played it through my cantons and I have heard things I have never heard before through them,it is like they have been kick started,I can feel the charges going off it is that good.

The moral of this?

Buy the very best dvd player you can afford,it DOES make a difference!

Also big thumbs up to soundsgood on ebay,Gary is a top bloke!

Cheers,

Phil(off to re-discover home cinema!)

Nice one Phil The 2900 is meant to be very good for audio. My 3910 went on Monday. I sold it on ebay & the guy came & picked it up. I've got the Arcam DV29 now & the picture is stunning. I do miss my 3910 tho, mostly for the Denon-link feature which has the best steering for surround I've yet heard. Unfortunately, my 5.1 analogue cables don't reach the terminals on the Arcam, so I've been using coaxial. I've got the analogue outs for stereo CD use tho, & it is a fantastic CD player. The 2900 is meant to be good at CD also, but the 3910 really wasn't.

Glad you found the right player, and for the price they go for 2nd hand a real bargain.

T

Agreed, the 2900 is excellent. I used to have a 2800mkII which was brilliant but died on me. When getting a new player, I tested out the 2900 and, although not much better in pq over the 2800mkII, the sound was a noticable step up.

Unfortunately, I was a little too scared to get another Denon after my one died so I got the Pioneer 757 which was the closest thing I could find to the 2900. Both are superb imo.

I'm sure yours will be fine. I think I just had a dud one. Enjoy it, it's a great machine and I personally think it still looks alot better than the newer Denon players.

When you say Gary, I guess you mean Gary Lea.
I'm glad you are pleased as I've just today bought a 2900 from Gary and I was nervous about spending a few hundred pounds on an older player.

I have been a bit bored lately with my current player so I hope I'm as happy as you are.

Enjoy your new player

i've got one of these and I love it for everything except home brew DVD's it just doesn't seem to like them. I have tried lots of different disc from different manufacturers and it make no difference. It is a real shame, I would love to update it but it is hard to decide what to.

I'm also very pleased with my Denon 2900 - I use it almost exclusively for SACD and DVD-A. (I mainly use ARCAM for DVD-V).

I only try it for video if my other players won't play the discs.

Hi Guys,

Am interested in getting one of these players and wondered if there was anything to look out for on one that is a couple of years old? Also, what kind of price would you recommend paying?

Thanks,

Steve
