I currently have a pio 506xde hooked up to an old 'all-in-one' philips cinema system (lx3750w). The system gives me dolby 5.1 and dts with no problems, but I when I try to enhance the PQ output progressive scan, the pio gives me a blank screen.

Attached below is a word doc detailing the available connections. Note that my UK version of the philips 'all-in-one' has a scart socket instead of the component video out that is shown in the manual. I have scart to scart from the philips to input 2 on the pio media box.

The settings that I am using are as follows:
Video output on philips dvd is scart (option Scart/Pr PBY), but the PR PBY is not selectable on my model (due to a scart socket being fitted to the unit rather than component?)
On the media player the ‘video in’ setting gives me the following "current settings do not allow selection and adjustment". So I am also wondering if it could be that the scart I am using is not RGB capable?

The screen displays a great dvd image without progressive output – but I would like to see if I can get any further improvement.

You can't output progressive scan via scart I'm afraid you need component for this, that's you're problem right there.

Thanks for the reply. Would using a scart/component adaptor be a work around? Or is the fact that there is a scart connection in the linkeage put an end to all hope of progressive scan?

It'd probably be cheaper just to buy a 2nd DVD player capable of outputting via component or even HDMI/DVI. You can get one for around £70.

Yeah I am considering that option. In which case I guess something that upscales would be the ideal. I've seen the OPPO OPDV971H mentioned, but concerned about potential lip sync problems. Anyone have any further suggestions/recommendations?

ok, before I put this topic to bed....

Is it possible for me to attach an rgb to component converter to the scart output of my philips all-in-one home cinema (note the attached pic above shows a US version which had component video out as standard) and achieve progressive scan on my 506xde?

If so which would be the best method of getting the sound to the media box (guessing via digital coax out)?

Would switching the feed from PAL to NTSC make a difference?

I know the connector will cost as much as a progressive scan dvd player, but I am not sure that I want the extra player/cables etc.
