Well I have the same tv except 32 " and went for a Toshiba 350 I think it was
£100 in comet and £61.00 at amazon (it can be made multi region by key presses) and I use it HDMI out. It upscales to 720p (1280x720) and I was really
impressed by the pic. I have had many dvd players at much more money .
Oh and its very slim and not deep at all.

Thanks Simon.

While you are there, do you have your Sammy linked up to sky? If so what's the PQ like?

Sorry Adam I don't.. I use the sammy in my bedroom with just the tosh dvd player
no surround system at all.
The TV is from the built in Freeview and I think the quality is good sky may well
be better.
I wasn't even going to have a dvd player , but as the tosh is so small i
convinced the wife it would just balance on top (as wall mounted) which it does
a simple bent bracket and the 2 front feet on the top edge of the Sammy.

Yes I do have one. I mentioned the upscaling because many DVD players appear to miss out on the plasma/direct view LCD panels' native resolution.
As said many times elsewhere, all pixel based displays have to scale. It's just a matter of which does the best scaling, the panel or the player.

I was watching something the other day (can't remember what now - age creeping on! ) that I had recorded on my PVR and the picture was crystal clear (via Freeview - blimey) and, of course, it was the TV doing the scaling, not the PVR.

So, not sure really if it's always worth getting a scaling DVD player, but at the price they are now, why not?!
