Can Component connection change screen size?

I've always had my DVD player hooked up via a scart cable, and depending on the ratio of the DVD content my tv would switch between 16:9 and 4:3

I now have my DVD player connected via component cable for a better picture, but have noticed that my tv no long changes size automatically, I have to manually change it.

Is this normal with component, and is there a way round it?

Thanks.

It's normal for component. You'll have to change the aspect manually. S-video connections also have the same issue.

The aspect switching signal is carried on one of the pins of a scart socket.
