Sony NV92s from Electronics-Online.co.uk

Well, after the fiasco of buying a Samsung hd850 and returning it a week later due to it being mince....i decided to go for a Sony NV92s Multiregion from Electronics-online.co.uk.......
First film i watched (bearing in mind this is through HDMI connected to a Sony KDFE50A12...so compatibility should not be an issue.) was Star Trek Nemesis R1....just after the layer change the pic froze up....had to switch off/on...chapter select etc...and it still froze, so i did it once more and that sorted it....worrying really....
My wife then watched the new Zorro R3 dvd...picture actually dissapeared twice as though the pic signal was lost....more worrying still...
I rang the dealer who said i should keep hold of the player and monitor the situation as it may still be "settling down, or bedding in or sort of warming up...." jeez.....
Next day i put a couple of R2 discs on and lo and behold...black bar down the left hand side....the dreaded picture shift...
By this time i've had enough, i email with the problems asking for a refund, am told that i will get a reply within 2 hours....14 hours later i ring them up and they say they are not keen to have it returned for a refund. "We can have a look and fix it for you....i think it's probably a picture setting you've missed...or maybe a firmware upgrade..." yeah...right...
The upshot is, they WILL accept it back for a refund as long as it's "immaculate"...I have to pay the return postage, i also incur a £10.00 administration charge....
Moral?
Don't buy from these people....don't but the ns92v.....
i don't have any faith in the HDMI players anymore....they all seem to have SOMETHING screwed up with them!

Rant over...

Rich

Good morning,

Not good that you are having problems with your DVD player, seems like a bit of a mare!

However, you bought a Multiregion DVPNS92? i gather from the discs you have been watching, Having owned and set up plenty of these machines the only problem I have ever encountered is that of a faulty HDMI cable......

I can only think that when they were making it multi-region, they have in-advertently "balls'd" it up.

This is the reason that Sony dont endorse the multi-region DVD player (that and the shed load of money they can potentially loose) and the reason they (the Shop) dont want to take it back (they have no warranty cover (like yourself) with Sony)

Again, not a good position for you to be in, as you are the customer, so keep badgering them for a FULL refund - there cost.

Perhaps if you are going the multiregion route choose a player with a more trusted pedigree.

Cheers

Jamie

I'd have thought Sony would have been a good solid, reliable firm to buy from....what's with all these manufacturers releasing buggy, dodgy product?

I can see why they don't want to take it back now its multiregion and so without warranty.

Contact trading stardards becuase its their responsibility to give you a full refund.

The problems you describe make the player practically useless.
The retailer should take the player back without question and supply you with a brand new unit.
I would think that if the replacement unit exhibits the same faults then you should be entitled to a full refund.

It would also be worth considering the rule that covers you for online buying , I am sure you can send back the item within 7 days for a refund ?.

Good luck

So that they can sell it on as 'new' perhaps?

Exactly! That is precisely what the geezer on the phone was trying to say, without actually saying it! My advice stands...stay away from Electronics-online.co.uk....they truly are arse......
