Hi folks

Have just ordered the new Panasonic TH42PX60 plasma and it arrives thursday

Unfortunately my old dvd recorder does not have component connections so I want to buy a new player that will make the most of the new plasma and it's connections.
(Am going for player only as i don't need to record on it).

The PX60 has 2 hdmi and also component.
Please could someone tell me if i'd be better connecting thru hdmi or component for dvd playback quality?
Any suggestions as to a player best suited to this screen would be most appreciated though what with cost of screen, stand, quality cables etc i'm only looking at £100-£200.

Thanks Sambo99, thought that might be the case at that price. Was looking at that and Tosh 350e. Presumably connected thru hdmi?

Add £50ish quid more to your budget and get a Denon 2900 of ebay.

The player has both so you could experiment!

I am in the same position.

I notice that the newish Panasonic DVDS49 is getting good reviews (9/10 in What Video).

It is "only" component and not HDMI, but does that really matter I wonder?

Also, I see listed online for just £71.

At least the remotes will work across the TV and DVD.

Well having now spent the last 3 hours looking into various HDMI/Upscaling dvd players i think i've decided hdmi is more trouble than it's worth!!
Think I might knock that on the head now and search tomorrow for the best player in my price range with good ol' component only connections.

I decided to go with the Oppo OPDV971H from ITSupplies.

It gets very good review for PQ, and they seem to be very good on delivering continuous firmware upgrades. It is possible there might be some lipsynch issues as with other upscaling players, but the oppo does have built in adjustable audio delay settings too. So fingers crossed.
