Sony DVP-NS900V progressive scan?

Hi Guys,

I have a Sony DVP-NS900V which has a component out on it

I have brought a ixos component cable and connected it up to my HDTV (an LG 32LX2R

In my options (of the player) if i turn the component out on i can only select video or s-video when usually i can select RGB, video or s-video when using a scart

Will i be getting progressive scan from that?

I have read on the web that my player is progressive scan but the place i read it refers to a switch on the back of the player which changes between interlaced, progressive or switchable

Mine doesnt have this switch but is exactlly the same model number
So can my player do progressive scan or not?? and if not will component set to video or s-video be better or worse than my RGB scart lead? (its a video dedicated QED one)

Any help would be most appreciated (sorry for the long winded post!!)

Reg

I have the same player and unfortunately it doesn't do progressive scan.

You only get component through the component sockets. Technically, it should be better than S Video and probably equal to RGB scart as it it interlaced rather than progressive.

Yeah, the ns900 has non-progressive component outs, I think the specs you read on the web were intended for players in the North American market.

I'd stick with the Scart connection for the moment as component I don't think will make a significant improvement since it will output only in interlace mode.

Depends how good the LG is at deinterlacing.

Thanks for the responses

I really cant decide which is better but as i have to switch the component leads with my XBOX 360 i will stick with scart for the moment

Its a shame as i love my player but i guess i'll have to replace it in the not to distant future

Oh and if your wondering why i dont just use my 360 for dvds the PAL XBOX 360 playback looks pretty awful, artifacts everywhere and just as fussy as the scart on my dvd player!

Cheers guys

I use my 900 for SACD & it is a great player. The most you'll get for it 2nd hand will probably be £150. I'd keep hold of it if I were you.

I also love my player. As I have a projector now, I got a Sony NS585 at the time which is component and progressive. I find it excellent and I know just use the NS900 on the TV.

Question

Hi
A question for everyone who has the Sony DVP-NS900V. Do you ever get the C1300 disc is dirty error and if so have you made any attempt to have it fixed. I still have my 3 year old Sony but it is a pain on DVD-r's due to the C1300 error. I'd love to get it fixed.

Any advice.

I don't see the point. It plays all my other DVD-/DVD+ and commercial DVD's fne. Memorex DVD's are not that good anyway although it plays Memorex DVD+R's fine. It is still my number one player and will not swap it for anything else.
