I'm not sure this is the right section to post this question but had to start somewhere. I'm trying to play videos from my pc on my new player but there's a couple of things I'm struggling with

1. I have one avi file that is over a gig in size however as I don't have a dvd burner I was hoping someone could tell me how to reduce it in size so as to fit it on a 800mb CD-R.

2.Is there any particular format I should convert it to for easy playback on the dvd player? I've heard about VCD and Xvid but don't really know the difference between any of them to be honest

any ideas would be grately appreciated.

Download AutoGK

This allows you you "load" a video file (avi etc) and split it into managable sized XVid chunks such as 1CD (700MB), 1/2CD (350MB).

Launch the application from the start menu and select your input file.
Select your required output file size from the predefined dropdown list.
Click "Add Job"
Click "Start"
It will take at least real time to process the file so be patient

If you want an easy solution you could split the file using Avisplitter from here :

Get the trial version - when you first load a file into the program you may get an error message - read it carefully and you should be able to successfully split the file into two equal parts!

thanks guys, I'm definitely looking to fit it onto one disk - I've had experience of splitting files before when needed, but I really don't want to watch half a film then have to switch disks
