Problem with Pioneer DV340

My 18th birthday present (birthday tomorrow, testing today) was a Multi region Pioneer DV340 from Richer Sounds. Basically it isn't happy. Every single DVD I played in it was corrupted and tinted green to some degree.

Futurama season 1 Region 2: 100% corrupted and green
The Matrix Region 2: corrupted and green startup and on odd accoasions during playback.
The Fast and The Furious Region 1: 100% corrupted to a very serious degree, black and white.

To me this looks like a serious fault with the player, unless someone can offer another solution?

I have tried ALL the obvious stuff, cables, TVs, settings, troubleshooter section and yes I did read the manual.

Can anybody suggest what is wrong?
