Lafayette LFDV969D. £120 deck for £40 Hmmmm

I bought this on recommendation but I'm kinda wondering about something - hence a new thread title!

There is a which review of this deck but I just cancelled my account. Can anyone summarise whether it got a thumbs up or down?

Or can anyone else comment on RGB performance (esp red areas) on a good quality screen?

The NON-divx version of this deck (LFDV969 - no 'D') was getting rave reviews just 15 months ago when it was selling for £120-£160 without DivX. To me - that indicates this is no 'budget' deck. And the reviews
seem to bear that out..

Now I bought the one going cheap at Big Pockets for just £40.
RGB performance was poor. Red was bleeding almost like watching composite (it wasnt Composite BTW - I double checked). Not quite as bad as composite - more S-Video quality (but it wasnt S-video - I checked that too!)
Whereas in reviews RGB was excellent. My DVD-Recorder was giving a much clearer picture with same settings and scart etc.

Divx playback was jerky (apparently it cant play back packed bitstream properly.
My year old - £40 Crystal budget Divx player has no problems).

And I just got to thinking - (no criticism of BigPockets) - but under what circumstances does £120 worth of kit - with very good reviews - become profitable to anyone - selling at £40.

But either I have a faulty unit (as far as RGB playback is concerned) Or build quality has dropped to save money.

Or maybe the jerky AVI thing cant be fixed via firmware upgrade hence they are trying to offload them cheap.

Mines 'made in China' FWIW. I'm just about to RMA to BigPockets but I just need to find out whether this is generally a poor deck (even though it might have been good in the past) or whether I have a bad sample.
