3910 or 989 or 7600

Hi, I'm in a little bit of a quandry as to which DVD player to purchase. Most people edge me towards the 3910 as I currently have the 3805 amp to benefit from the iLink connection. Just to say that I only use my HC equipment purely for DVD playing and not music. Most people would say demo them personally but just want individuals views? Also, I dont suppose u can hook up the iLink connection on the Pioneer with the Denon iLink on the amp? I would appreciate honest replies.

I find that Denon-Link on movies gives you much more bigger & more enveloping sound than the 5.1 analogue outs. I've tried both on my 3910 & basically for things like Crouching Tiger, House of Flying Daggers it comes across well with the 3910's analogue outs, for everything else I use Denon-Link. The stearing on Denon-Link is really good & greatly reduces jitter. It is also more detailed & revealing. i.link apparently gives you something similar, but your 3805 hasn't got an i.link input. I imagine the 7600 will have great sounding analogue 5.1 outputs.
I imagine, but don't know, that the 989 may give best pq via HDMI. 3910 & 7600 pq wise ???

Additionally, you'll notice the benefit on your sub also via denon-Link, much better than coax or analogue .1

i'd say go with the Denon purely for the keep it in the family factor especially the Denonlink as mentioned......also you'll be surprised, try picking up a few SACD or DVD-A music discs, there are some spankingly good ones out there, some are just plain awful tho so best to read reviews of them before you buy....lol

as for the ilink, isnt that just firewire? i thought the 3805 had firewire? if not ignore me....lol

(i havnt tried the others btw, just so you know im not giving a comparative choice, i just own a 3910 and find it a very useful player in a lot of ways)

Hi,

I use 3910 to an Ax10 via Ilink and it works fine of SACD and DVD audio and with slight reservations DD and DTS. The DD suffers from minor audio breaks. A lot better with version E of firmware but still it’s there on some discs. As Knyght pointed out Ilink is firewire, Denon link is a Cat5 or standard network cable, wiring is different though and you need 3rd version to get SACD.

Some here think a lot of the new 989, and I used to have a 737 and that liked that a lot. By all account a better picture than the 3910 but I will never go back to a player without a buffer. It not like it’s expensive to put one in, every pc dvd on the market has it. Pioneer were always one of the worst offenders. Breaks the whole rhythm of a film and piggin annoying to boot.

Don’t really know about 7600 so not much help there.

That made me laugh

On the issue of DVD players you're looking at, i can't really say because my opinions on here doesn't matter that much.. So i'd say audition them all and decide for yourself

I'll take it that comment relates to my mishap. Every thing I did just added more copies...it was a nightmare. Thankfully someone has kindly removed them. Who ever it was thanks.

If you are getting breaking up via Denon-Link then something is not right

Hi Timbo,

I believe its a sync issue. Others have commented on this before. Denon seem to have acknowledged as such with various upgrades to the firmware. It not bad, very brief silences (fraction of a second) maybe once or twice in a film and it doesn't always happen now. DTS, DVD audio or SACD haven't ever exhibited problem and its a lot better since the last firmware (E) change over my original version in the player (5 I think). DD is fine via the spdif and it was always an option if it annoyed me. Firmware upgrades are scary, especially the 3 disc B version to enable sacd on the denon link Just praying not to large expensive doorstop at the end of it

I know what you mean with the upgrades, but I bit the bullet & did it anyway.
I've never had any problems with the 3910/3805 combo with Denon-link on anything.
