What HDMI signal types does the Philips DVP5900 support?

I've recently bought one of these DVD players in response to all of the good reviews here but I've noticed that when connected up to my Sharp LCD via HDMI I don't get the option to choose which HDMI signal type is being received, ie, RGB or component (4.4.2 and 4.4.4). I've also noticed whilst trying to configure my picture settings using Digital Video Essentials that I can't see the blacker-than-black elements in the various test patterns which leads me to the conclusion that only the RGB digital signal is being supported.

Anyone know for sure.

I think you are somewhat confused as to what HDMI is. HDMI is a pure digital signal and therefore there are no different signal types as in analogue connections (i.e.composite,RGB,compnent).
HDMI is a connection type all of it's own which allows the digital information on a disc to be presented as is without any digital to analogue conversion which often adds noise and affects picture quality.

No, I'm not confused. HDMI can carry both digital RGB and YCbCr (4.4.2 and 4.4.4) signals. You need to check your facts.
