Advice needed on DVD setup...

At the mo I've got a Samsung LE32R41B HD-LCD connected to a Sony DAVS550 AV Amp/DVD player. I've also got an Xbox 360 connected to the LCD via Component and a PC connected via VGA. The Sony DVD is connected via a Monster composite video cable.

I would like to improve the picture quality of my DVD's.

Now... I've got 2 options:

1 - Buy a Component splitter (about £50) and use the component out on the Sony to provide the picture.

or

2 - Buy a HDMI Upscaling DVD player and buy an Optical lead switch (£??) so that I can still benefit from 5.1 audio on the HDMI player as well 5.1 audio on my Xbox 360 (the Sony DAVS550 only has 1 x Optical in)

What do you guys reckon?

I've got the Sammy LE32R41B as well & the Sammy HD 950 dvd player attached via hdmi & I've been impressed so far with it's performance. It's got optical & 5.1 connections out. The only downside I've found with it so far is that it doesn't automatically switch between pal & ntsc.

Hope this helps in some way.

I got a decent, affordable optical switcher from www.tvcables.co.uk . No problems as yet.
