Philips DVP5900 hdmi hookup to projector

Philips DVP5900 hdmi hookup to projector
I'm unable to get HDMI output from my Philips DVP5900 to a Panasonic AE700 projector. Have connected HDMI cable direct from DVD to projector and set DVD menu to 720p. Just get blue screen. Works ok with component cables. Also can't play AVI files from my Canon S2 IS camera on DVD. Plays stills ok but not motion pic files. Any suggestions?
