DVD's Doing 1080P????

Hello,

I was looking on ebay and they had a dvd player that they stated would up convert to 1080P. Is that possible? The website is http://www.neodigits.com

Has any one hear of this? or Better yet tried it? How would it compart to Blu-ray or HD DVD?

The keyword here is UPCONVERT.

I simple terms it takes a regular dvd and ADDS information to fill the native resolution of you display. THIS IS NOT HD.

in figures thats

720x576 (pal dvd) stretched/added to fit 1920x1080p.

However blu-Ray is either 1920x1080i 0r 1280x720p of actual resolution.

So its clear that an upconverting dvd player just fakes the whole thing, and blu-ray hd-dvd will have a much better picture because they use actual resolution.

No. BluRay and HD-DVD will contain material originally recorded in HD formats of either 720p, 1080i and 1080p.

I would expect the deinterlacing will be done by onboard hardware the same as it is today, ie faroudja etc. so no i dont think it will be stored inprogressive as that would take up more disc space.

I'm a bit confused about this. If plasmas/projectors are progressive devices what difference does it make if a BluRay/HD-DVD is 1080i or 1080p since the 1080i will be displayed as 1080p in any case. I assume I'm missing something here !

It can be both in truth, but i think most are stored in interlaced.

Its the quality of the deinterlacing. Most plasmas are not that great TBH, some dvd players deinterlace better but very few can match a video processor (if any, perhaps one)
