Help with DVD player settings

Help with DVD player settings
Playing a DVD through a Philips DVP3005 into a Dell 2600 and the picture on the screen has bars on the top and the bottom. Is that correct? Im sure it did not before I had disconnected it and reconnected it.

The DVD player is set to widescreen and the so is the TV

What is the DVD in question and what is its aspect ratio? Unless it is 1.78:1 (16:9) you will have black bars above and below the picture. This is perfectly normal.

'Pulp Fiction' is 2.35:1 and 'Be Cool' is 2.40:1 I believe, so black bars above and below the picture is normal.
