DVD Advice for new PV500

Hi guys,

I have just had a new 42PV500 for my a/v system which comprises of the following

Arcam DV88 (NO prog scan) - component connection to panel, dig co-axial to amp

Marantz SR4200 - Has no component or hdmi inputs

Sky+ - connected via rgb scart to panel

Xbox360 - component to panel. currently having to swap cables with dvd player as only 1 component input.

Bose Accoustimass 15 subwoofer and speakers connected to Marantz amp with bose speaker cabling.

I am looking at upgrading my av receiver, dvd player and speakers but am not sure which order or if the benefits will be worthwhile. At the moment I am using pretty decent cabling so feel I am getting as good as I can get from my current setup. My current usage is 75% movie/tv and 25% playback from mp3 sources via phono cable to current amp.

My aims from any upgrade are:
1) noticibly improved picture and sound
2) hdmi switching on the av receiver for future proofing (dvd, sky hd etc)
3) component inputs on av receiver
4) hdmi output from dvd
5) multi region from dvd

I have looked so far at the Denon 3910 (although i hear this is due for replacement) Pio 989, Oppo 971 dvd players; Yamaha rx-v4600, v2600 and denon 3806 av receivers and for speakers b&w mt-20, mission m-cube or something like KEF KHT1005/2005.

I don't want to spend more money than necessary but do want to see a improvement in the quality to feel like I have spent my money wisely (and to justify it to the missus!).

Any advice on what I should upgrade first would be great and posible options etc would be amazing! You guys have already helped my decision to buy thr PV500 and that has been out of this world so I await your help again!

Thanks everyone!

For PQ you would be better off keeping Arcam and getting a video scaler such as a lumagen. The improvement would be far greater than buying another DVD player. The added benefit is that all your video sources could be connected and scaled and you would only need one connection to your PV500. For more info have a look at the video calibration forum and post there. If I could afford it that would be my route.

I was looking at the Yamaha rx-v2600 a/v receiver which does scaling, I assume this would be nowhere near as good as the lumagen would be? I assume a decent scaller would be around £1000 for my setup?

If i was to go for the Yam 2600 and keep my current arcam dv88 would the pq look better through the 2600 with the upscaling to 720p?
