Theres a few threads about regarding different problems, mainly lip sync probs when using DTS and some kind of locking up error when pausing and resumeing.

I've had my 1920 for about a month know and must have watched about 15 or 20 films.

I've yet to experiance any of the porblems that other people have complained about, but i have made sure that i have used quality connect cables, whether this has any bearing im not sure.

Only had one problem and that it was losing the picture with my Hitachi 7200, it was a problem with the HDMI cable, had this changed and the problem was cured.

Sometimes get a slight lip-sync issue but only noticed it on a few discs, couldn't say for sure whether they were all DTS or not. I do tend to look for it rather than notice it. My Dad has never mentioned any lip-sync problems with his.

I've had the player fail to power up once due to the stop/resume problem. Reset it by turning it off at the mains and it came back on OK, again my Dad hasn't had a problem with his.

On the plus side the 1920 gives a stunning upscaled HDMI picture and the sound reproduction is superb. The sound reproduction was the main reason I went with the Denon rather than the cheaper Samsung and Toshiba HDMI models.

I got both of ours from www.petertyson.co.uk but they have recently increased the price from £199 to £239. Maybe worth waiting until after Christmas.

Cheers

Thanks for the feed back Lee, Interesting as you are using the same TV as I , I am keen to get a new player and was drawn to the Sony 92, but then could'nt find one, so felt the Denon may well be the answer, and sure perhaps after christmas there will will be some good deals.

I had trouble with the deinterlacing not working properly when using HDMI (this player doesn't support interlaced modes over HDMI). Movies were OK, but interlaced TV material (e.g. Red Dwarf, Futurama, etc) would produce interlacing artifacts such as mice teeth and juddering. I also had lip-sync problems. The handset is really nasty, too. I ended up sending the player back. Fortunately, Peter Tyson were really good about it.

I'm looking to purchase the denon 1920 but i've been reading on this forum that there are issues with lip synching. Does anybody know if this is an issue and if there is a solution to it, as reading the forums nobody has actually come back with the solution.

Any help with this would be great, as i'm looking to purchase this player

Noticed you have a pioneer 717 blue rocket and the Sony 50". I have just got my Sony today, and have also got the pioneer 717 but have not yet connected the 717. I am thinking of buying an HDMI player and have been thinking of the Samsung HD850 or the Tosh SD350, but now have been drawn to the Denon since reading these posts. Is the picture quality that much better than with the 717?

Hi; Have not yet made the plunge to upgrade the DVD player, so at this time cannot answer the question directly.

However reading some of the comments, the problems on new players i e Sony and Denon, seems to be coming via the HDMI, so i feel if i purchased a new player and the HDMI let me down i would use the RGB , which as i am told is better than the S video connection.
At the moment I am running my 717 s video link straight to the TV whilst the audio from the 717 runs into my amp, and have to say its a great picture, and realy wonder if i can better it. But certainly I would suggest quality cables at all time ,to get the very best...

Logiclee who uses the Denon along side the Sony 50" seems to find it ok, and has made some good comments on the forums, the subject is also brought up on the Projection section here,
http://www.avforums.com/forums/bt-vision/

Personaly I am going to wait till after xmas and see if there are any bargains about..

Thanks Blue Rocket, I will order myself an SVHS cable today from Cable Universe as they have various qualities at good prices. I will order the premium ones and see what happens. I have an optical connection from my AV amp to the 717, so that should take care of the audio side. My main irritation with the 717 is that it does not play copies of DVDs or CDs, so I use a Wharfedale DVD player for CDs, and I actually find the audio is better than the Pioneer.

No problems for me with the Denon 1920. Great picture and superb sound. Remote looks and feels a bit cheap and nasty but does the job fine.

Only thing I was a little disappointed with is that the 2mb buffer doesn't seem to have any affect on the layer change - it's just as bad as previous players I've had. I know that you need to go to the 2910 to get 8mb and seemless layer change, but I did expect some small improvement from the 2mb.

Did you have same problem when using component?

Just plugged mine in today, and I can only seem to get composite video (instead of RGB) out of the SCART. Can't seem to find any way to influence this in the menus. This is multi region by Super-fi, so maybe it is something to do with their hack?

Never tried it with component. I bought the player to use with HDMI. It couldn't do that properly, so it wasn't worth keeping.

Can anyone tell me if the 1920 upscales through component or is it only through HDMI.

Has anyone compared the two to see if the picture is better through HDMI.

I had th samsung HD950 but sold it as I couldn't see any difference between 720p through HDMI and component on my chipped xbox.

I have the 2910 and, as far as I can tell, it only upscales via HDMI/DVI. I have tried both component and HDMI and to be honest I see little if any difference betwen the two. That said, I have only just taken delivery of my new system and I am still playing around with various settings to see what gives the best picture.

Paul,

Your dealer is talking a load of codswallop. The 1920, which I have presently on trial from my dealer, shows an excellent picture on my 92" screen, via my Z4. For example, "The House of Flying Daggers" looks simply stunning. Zhang Ziyi on the other hand just looks utterly phenomenal
