Rock solid transport 2nd hand £50ish

Anyone got any recommendations for a good transport which can be acquired for around £50ish 2nd hand? I know all about the Pioneer 737/717 - wondered if there were any others? Recently changed from my Arcam DV88 to a nos dac, and currently using a Toshiba sd-220e as transport. Love the Toshiba, but it feels very flimsy for a transport. Any advice?

Oh, i've also been looking at dvd/hard drive recorders from Sony, Pioneer, Panasonic and particuarly the Toshiba 32/34. Anyone know what these are like as transports?

You could try a 2nd hand Laserdisc player - I remember one of the high end hi fi mags using one very successfully

i.e. this one..then sell the LD's and get your money back !!

Ive used a 717 for years with a couple of DAC Devil, the prices they are available 2nd hand for are astonishing. I also compared my 717 against a 40 spec of jitter Toshiba and again could tell no difference. That was with a TAG DAC. I just could not hear any difference between transports (OPMMV). The other point I would say about the 717 is that it’s a lovely downmixer of 5.1 DVD IME for stereo use. But …….

FWIW I would not be changing your transports, you are using a very basicly designed DAC with a simple PLL circuit, worrying about transport quality into such a DAC is a misnomer to me AFAT Dac is concerned. By all means save thy pennies and put a “better” transport in front of the NOS, but it will make minimal changes to your system IMHO.

Regards & GL.
