Does anyone know where to get new firmware for Goodmans, this one will not load or read, approx three four years old.

The reason I needed this firmware may be solveable - when I burn dvds from Pinnacle Sudio plus most work fine, in fact I find the whole programme good, but some do not read on other peoples machines, the goodman being one of them. I wonder what the problem is. Any help would be great.

I have got round this problem, and the answer may have a bearing on many burning problems. You must use dvd+r and not rw, also burn at a lower speed, this seems to make the dvd more compatible with players of all types. The older ones being the bigger problem. Incidently, I have always found pinnicle studio plus to be excellent.

I think the fact that it is a Goodman product is the problem. I suggest ditching it and buying another machine from a more reputable brand.

If mike ormond's got 3-4 years usage out of the product I'd say that testifies to its longevity, not its "disrepute". The problem's probably just age. A machine of that vintage may not have been specified to read writeable disks, or at least, not disks written at the speeds now current. Maybe reducing the burn speed on the PC will help. It wouldn't hurt to check what the machine is capable of here either:

I found the problem and would say the Goodmans was ok for what it was used for - I did explain that I was producing the dvds for friends to look at and therefore had to put up with and cater for whatever machine they have. You get what you pay for and in many ways the cheaper machines do the job they are intended for. I would suggest that without the cheaper end of the market the market wouldn't have moved foreward.
