Upscaling = some interesting observations

using a samsung Hd935 player, hooked up via dvi to Ae500

image is amazing, on 1080i........

you can really notice a BIG improvement..........it gets rid of all jaggies, and the image just becomes very film like, its just a day and night improvement.....

on standard mode, its a good image, but u can see the jaggies, and see its a digital medium res picture

upscale to 720, and its immediately better

BUT, going to 1080i is just so much better...........this is the best image Ive ever seen from dvd

the only downside, is unless the film has been mastered perfectly, you do get some grain in the image

on Bat.begins, its perfect on 1080i

really depends on the quality of the dvd........

interestingly, on the samsung logo screen, on standard res., again, u can see the jagged edges, around the logo

upsampling, to 720 increases the quality

and at 1080 is virtually perfectly smooth

and this is on a 7' diagonal projected image

the 935 uses Faroudja circuits, and Im guessing they are the key to the excellent image

from this experience, I can say upscaling works, and works really really well....not just a minor improvment, but a real wow factor

im keen on trying out the new Sony 92, as the sammy has a massive bright blue light, and doesnt respond to the remote at all well.....
